AC Milan will not look to extend Mario Balotelli's loan spell with the
club beyond this season, meaning the player will return to Liverpool at
the end of the campaign, reported the Express.
Balotelli
does not, however, feature in Reds' manager Jurgen Klopp's plans for
next term, and Liverpool could look to sell the player permanently as a
result. Liverpool were hopeful Balotelli would remain out on loan next
season, but the player's poor form and injury troubles have convinced
Milan to turn their attention to other forwards.
Liverpool
are preparing for what looks like a mass overhaul of their front-line
as a result, as Balotelli could be sold permanently and Christian
Benteke looks to be on his way out of the club too. And even Daniel
Sturridge has been linked with a £50m move to French champions Paris
Saint Germain this week.
Benteke has admitted he regrets joining Liverpool because he's been consistently overlooked by Jurgen Klopp, saying: "What's annoying me most is that I would have never signed for Liverpool if I wasn't the manager's first choice.
"Since
I went to England in 2012, I've never been on the bench for such a long
period. It hurts, especially since I never was as fit as I am now."
Benteke
has a number of suitors, though Liverpool will be hopeful they're able
to find a buyer for Balotelli - who joined them for £16m in 2014 -
despite his poor spell over the last couple of years. He has made just
14 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri this term and scored one goal,
though he has hit two in two in the Coppa Italia.
It had been reported that Milan were looking to extend the loan into next season, but Milan are now targeting a move for Genoa striker Leonardo Pavoletti - who has scored 11 goals in 19 appearances this season.
