Davide Astori was tragically found dead in his hotel room this morning; all the games from this matchday, including tonight’s Derby della Madonnina, have been postponed to a later date.
Absolutely tragic news coming from Italy this morning as Fiorentina captain and ex-Milan center back, Davide Astori, 31, has been found dead in his hotel room.
“Fiorentina are profoundly shocked to have to announce the death of captain Davide Astori after a sudden illness,” the Viola wrote on their official Twitter account. “Given this terrible and delicate situation we appeal to everyone’s sensitivity at this time, above all out of respect for his family.”
Following the confirmation of the news, the Lega Serie A has decided to postpone all the remaining games from this matchday. This of course includes the Derby della Madonnina match between Milan and Inter which was supposed to be played tonight in a nearly sold-out Stadio San Siro.

“A man who loved football and who grew up as footballer with us,” the Rossoneri wrote on their Twitter account. “Milan are shocked by the passing of Davide Astori. It is with great sadness that we offer our deepest condolences to his family and closed ones and to Fiorentina.”
To Davide’s family and friends, we offer our sincerest condolences. RIP Astori.
