Galliani: “These are my last 3 weeks at Milan, I’m very critical of myself and I certainly could’ve done more".

Adriano Galliani has officially confirmed he will leave Milan after the ‘closing’ but insisted ‘I will think of what to do in the future only when there will be new directors’, while Andriy Shevchenko has said he hopes Galliani stays in football.

The Chinese group Sino-Europe Sports will complete the acquisition of Milan in December and the day of the announcement will also be the last day of Chief Executive Galliani at Milan.
Galliani has been at Milan together with Silvio Berlusconi since 1986 and despite perhaps hurting their legacy in the last few years in which success was rare, they will forever be credited for turning the Rossoneri into a leading force in football and one of the biggest clubs in history.
‘Uncle Fester’ was a guest on Friday night’s MilanTV show ‘Talk Milan’. The program started with a clip containing footage from Milan’s successes in the 30 years of Berlusconi’s Presidency. “It’s pure emotion for those who lived through these things. It gives goosebumps,” Galliani said after watching the video package.
After the clip was shown, Galliani received a call from his friend and one of his best signings – Andriy Shevchenko. “I couldn’t miss this opportunity to hail Dr. Galliani for all these years of success at Milan and above all for the support and great friendship,” the legendary Sheva told the Diavolo VP.

Galliani replied: “Thanks Andriy, in the modern era, you are the strongest striker that Milan had. You are carved in the hearts and the history of Milan.” Shevchenko asked: “Doctor, is there a chance that you will stay?” Galliani answered: “It would appear not, so I think these are my last three weeks at Milan. Not out of arrogance, but I’ve always been a CEO in my career, I don’t know any other role.
“What can I do? I’d say that they are my last three weeks at Milan after 30-odd years. [Quoting the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo] Nothing is absolute. Everything changes, everything moves, everything revolves, everything flies and goes away. What we have done together remains.
Shevchenko: “I hope you stay in football, because football needs you and you still have a lot to give.” Galliani: “Okay, I’m coming to be the Ukraine Team Manager [laughs]. I’ll greet Mauro Tassotti and Andrea Maldera [both left the Milan training staff to join Shevchenko in coaching Ukraine].” Shevchenko handed over the phone to Tassotti and Galliani greeted him quickly.

“If I ever doubted myself? Yes, absolutely. I am very critical of myself. I certainly could’ve done more and better. There are many things I could’ve done or not done. I think all of us, apart from very few people in the world, give 100 per cent of their abilities and can still do better. It’s a difficult job.
“Working in the Lega Claico? I’m its Vice President and I attend it. The future? I don’t know what will happen. I’m serious, I haven’t absolutely taken any kind of decision and I haven’t absolutely decided to run for President of the Lega. I’ll think of what to do in the future when there will be new directors.
“I will have to agree on the whole route with President Berlusconi with whom I have a working relationship for the past 37 years.” What’s clear, however, is that Galliani won’t work for another club.
